Mozuku Day

Katsuren Fishermen’s Association and Okinawa Mozuku Cultivation Promotion Council held the 12th Mozuku Day event, Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Heshikiya Fishing Port in Katsuren.

Mozuku is edible seaweed that grows naturally in the coastal waters of Okinawa, although most on is now farmed and sold to processing factories from where it finds its way to Japan’s dinner tables to be eaten with rice vinegar as a condiment. Almost all of it is produced in Okinawa.

The event featured various mozuku products. Mozuku grabbing was something that children enjoyed very much. Performances on stage such as of dancing and drums completed the full day of fun.
