Okinawa attracted a record number of visitors in 2013, according to the Okinawa Prefecture Tourism Policy Division. The division announced the number of tourists that visited Okinawa in the fiscal 2013, Monday.

The numbers show that the total increased 11.1% from a year before, and above the target number of 6.3 million marking the highest on record. Visitors from Kansai region increased by 15.3% counting for almost a fifth of the total, or 1.1 million visitors. Tourists from Tokyo increased by 7% to a total of 2.9 million. The number of visitors from abroad increased a whopping 64% to a total of 620,000.
