YTsuboya Shisa event today honors Tsuboya tradition and Okinawan protector Shisa.

Naha’s long pottery making traditions are concentrated in the Tsuboya area, and is Shisa Day (Shi = four/Sa(n) = three), honoring Okinawa’s favorite pottery.

Shisa exhibition has shisas from various parts of Okinawa on diplay.

It’s only natural that pottery artists in the Tsuboya area are celebrating today with organizing various events centered around the theme of Okinawa’s own mythological protector beast. The day starts with a 9:30 a.m. opening ceremony, followed by the Tsuboya Shisa Tour at 10:30 a.m. that takes visitors on a tour to find shisas in Tsuboya. Participation in the tour is free, and no application is required. Just gather at the entrance of the Tsuboya museum before 10:30 a.m. to participate.

Another tour taking place at 2 p.m. invites participants to join on the search of Tsuboya to learn its history.

Shisa making takes place on the roof of Tsuboya Shisa Museum from 2 to 4 p.m.

This tour is also free and no application is required. The entrance of the museum before at 2 p.m. is again the meeting point.

On the third floor of the museum there will be an exhibition of shisas by ceramic artists from all Okinawa from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today. The exhibition runs from Apr. 3^rd through 20^th.

Those who want to try their own hand to make a shisa can do so from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the roof of the museum, where shisa making is happening for the first 50 to apply. The cost for the experience is \1,500. Advance applications hand are required and taken at (098) 862-3761 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
