Yonabaru Railway Station to be reconstructed
Yonabaru Railway Station that was destroyed in the Battle of Okinawa is being reconstructed on the site it once stood.
Yonabaru Station was once the end of a narrow-gauge railway that operated between Naha and Yonabaru from 1914 until it was destroyed during the war. Okinawa Prefectural Government operated the railway for both passengers and freight.
The reconstructed station building is scheduled to open in October as a library specializing in Okinawa’s transportation history.
