Landslide scare in forces evacuation of residents
On the night of the May 12th, heavy rain poured on several places within the central and northern areas of Okinawa Island.
According to the Nago City Fire Department, just before noon, some local residents phoned in the fire station, saying “There seems to be a possibility of a landslide in Teniya.”
After inspecting the location near Highway 331, the fire department came to a conclusion that a landslide was imminent, and residents of a nearby household were urged to take refuge.
However, the landslide ultimately did not take place.
