World’s largest multi-sport festival coming to Okinawa

Runners take to the road at Corporate Games in London.

Thousands of participants and spectators are expected to flock to Okinawa in 2015 as the World Corporate Games makes its debut in this island prefecture.

The Okinawa Corporate Games are slated for March 5th ~ 8th, bring together dozens of businesses and a host of organizations competing in 15 sports ranging from badminton to volleyball.  Since the games were first created in 1988 in San Francisco, more than 20,000 organizations have participated, as well as tens of thousands of individuals, in more than 170 iterations of the games.

Golf is a natural sport for Corporate Games.

All sports, both individual and team, are open equally to women and men, with competition based on age.  To date, the oldest competitor has been 87, and the youngest 8 years of age. Major corporations are the backbone of this worldwide sports concept, with Deloitte participating in more than 80 games worldwide, while Ernst & Young and IBM over 70, and KPMG an PWC over 60 games.

Sports to be in the Okinawa Corporate Games are badminton, basketball, beach soccer, beach volleyball, Dragon Boat racing, futsal, golf, running, soccer, swimming – open water, table tennis, tennis, tenpin bowling and volleyball.  Organizations may enter as many individuals or teams as they wish, in any combination of sports. Each person may enter only one of the 15 sports.

Competition is in four classes: Open, 30-39, 40-49, NS 50+.  Entry forms are available from the Games Office, or may be downloaded from the Corporate Games website.

Highlights of the four-day sports festival are an Athletes Grand Parade, sports participation, medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners, souvenir gifts and the closing awards celebration.
