Evacuation facility to be constructed in Naha

The Union of Okinawa Cities, Towns, and Villages Self-Government announced on May 28th that the site of the former Okinawa Red Cross Blood Center in Asahimachi, Naha City, would become the location of a new disaster evacuation facility.

According to the plan, the new facility would include a warehouse for three-day food and water supplies for 1,000 people.

A schematic design of the facility will be completed in the fiscal 2015, and in 2016, the basic design will be made.

The starting date of the construction is still undecided, but Nanjo City Mayor Keishun Koja says, “Our goal is to have it up nd running within 3-4 years.”
