Okinawa’s largest diving expo ever takes place over the weekend at Okinawa Convention Center.

Hundreds of Okinawan and Japanese divers, dive instructors and tourism industry representatives are preparing to meet international dive operators starting tomorrow to promote the region’s colorful dive opportunities.

The Okinawa Diving Resort Travel Expo is a three-day event attracting as many as 120 exhibitors showing their latest dive gear, camera equipment and tourism packages.  Admission is free for the Friday-through-Sunday expo at the Okinawa Convention Center in Ginowan City.  The expo is open daily 10 a.m. ~ 6 p.m., except closing Sunday at 5 p.m.

Organized by DRT Expo Okinawa, the show is being supported by the Okinawa Convention & Visitors Bureau, Japanese tourism agencies and dive operators and associations.  Fifteen underwater photo equipment manufacturers are slated for the exhibition zone, showing the latest technology in diving and underwater photography equipment.  Tourist associations from across Okinawa and its remote islands will provide information on each island, and international diving resorts in East Asia will be exhibiting, as well.

The expo’s Experience Zone is featuring products for experimental use, and there will be dive computers, underwater radios, regulators, BCs, and more, along with fun marine activities.  The Sony 3D theater aquarium will be open to the public, bringing nature alive before spectators’ eyes.

The DRT Show 2014 is a professional show, presenting information on both diving related business and traveling services.  The show features major dive equipment, dive institutions, hotels and resorts, travel opportunities and destinations, safety gear, ocean sports and publications on where to travel for the best dive excursions.

A Diving Talk Show will be produced by Hitomi Yoshizawa, and organizers are arranging free trials on Banana Boats, Biscuits and Sea Kayaks at nearby Tropical Beach.  Participation is free and on a first-come, first-served basis. The food court introduces Okinawan foods to visitors, and participants will have an opportunity to collect stamps while visiting major points in the expo.
