Safe driving tags to promote wildlife preservation

The Ministry of Environment Yambaru Wildlife Preservation Center is giving out free magnet tags to drivers who sign the “Safe Driving Declaration” to prevent accidents killing the critically endangered Yanbaru Kuina birds.

There are two types of magnet tags in the campaign. One depicts the Yanbaru Kuina and the other the Kenaga Nezumi (the Ryukyu long-haired rat). They are available at the center and at a store in the area where accidents mostly occur, Sosu Store in Motobu Town.

To obtain the tags, drivers are required to pledge to obey the speed limit and to register the phone number of the Yanbaru Wildlife Preservation Center or the Animal Hospital Okinawa on their cell phones.
