Okinawan diet members and representatives of the four opposition parties in the Prefecture Assembly decided at a meeting, Monday, to organize a large rally against the construction of the replacement facility for MCAS Futenma on Camp Schwab. The demonstration is scheduled to take place in front of Camp Schwab main gate starting 2 p.m. this Saturday, Aug. 23.

Organizers are expecting about 2,000 demonstrators to take part in the rally. The purpose  of the demonstration is to call nation-wide attention to the start of the boring survey of the ocean floor off the coast of Henoko that commenced a week ago.

They say that the aim is to keep on protesting against the construction of the new base, and they are already planning to hold another protest with several thousand people attending after this weekend’s event.
