Spotlight is on Izena King Sho-En festival
The 15th Izena Island King Sho-En festival kicks off tomorrow and runs through Sunday evening at Izena Rinkai Fureai Park on Izena island.
Friday’s activities are actually the festival’s pre-event. The festival promotes Izena Island and tourism to the public while promoting relationships with and for islanders. Taiko drum team shows from mainland Okinawa, as well as a dance stage take place Friday evening.
Saturday features a ground golf tournament, a sky sports experience, fishing tournament and a sea kayak experience, followed in the evening by hula dances, Ryujin Mabuya stage, a live music live show, karaoke contest, Sho-En drum show, and Shunichi Irei live performance. Fireworks starting at 9:45 p.m. finish the day.
Sunday continues with the sky sports experience and Haarii tournament in the daytime, and an Izena folk song contest, street performance and fireworks with a laser show starting at 9:45 p.m. Sunday. Officials say the ferry schedules will be adjusted for the weekend. Map: http://goo.gl/maps/Tva4F.
