The Kokusai Street site of the historic Kokuei Kan Theater is soon to become a hotel.

Unro Kanko, the L’Hotel de chine, is planning to manage a new hotel slated for construction on the site.  The Taiwanese hotel group says this will be the company’s first hotel in Japan.  Plans call for construction to begin next yaer, with completion in 2017.

There will be more than 200 employees to serve the Kokusai Street hotel. Unro Kanko manages 13 hotels, including a five-star hotel in Taiwan. There is one hotel in China and five hotels in Italy. The new brand will be launched in Okinawa. “We very much expected to market in Okinawa,” said a spokesman for Unro Kanko. The site for the hotel is owned by a major cement company in Taiwan, Chia Hsin Cement Corporation, which is related to Unro Kanko.
