AV-8B Harrier makes precautionary landing at Kadena Air Base

A Marine Corps AV-8B Harrier assigned to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit made a precautionary landing, Sep. 4, at Kadena Air Base after the pilot observed a warning indicator light.

After landing safely, an aircraft rescue and firefighting crew quickly responded and extinguished a small fire caused by hot brakes. There were no injuries to the pilot or any ground crew, and at no time were any civilians in danger. The aircraft damage appears limited and maintainers towed it to a parking area where a comprehensive investigation takes place to determine the facts and circumstances surrounding the precautionary landing.

The aircraft was conducting regularly-scheduled training in support of the Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security. The 31st MEU is the only continuously forward-deployed MEU.
