Oct. 5 Uruma City Assembly election campaign begins

The start of official campaign for the Uruma City Assembly election was  announced on Sep. 28th. In the election, 35 candidates vie for 30 seats. The election day is October 5th and ballots are counted on the same day.

Of the 35 candidates, 27 of 35 are incumbents. Seven are new faces and one is a former member of the assembly.

By party, 29 of the 35 have not declared any party affiliation and are officially running as independents. Two of the candidates are members of Komeito,  two are representing the Japanese Communist Party, one candidate hails from the Social Democratic Party and one candidate is from the Japan Restoration Party. By age, one hopeful is in his 30’s, four are in their 40’s, 13 in their 50’s, 16 are 60 something, and one is over 70 of age.

According to the Uruma City Election Administration Commission, there were 92,309 eligible voters in the city as of Sep. 27th.
