Yui Rail to offer free rides for seniors on Respect-for-Senior-Citizens Day

The Respect-for-Senior-Citizens Day, a national Japanene holiday is celebrated on Monday. Yui Rail, the Okinawa Urban Monorail Inc, announced that senior people over the age of 70 can ride for free on the monorail throughout that day.

Yui rail is planning to issue free tickets with verbal confirmation of age at each ticket counter of its stations. Okinawa Urban Monorail Section Chief Tadashi Ginama says, “We would very much like senior people to take advantage of the chance and enjoy the views of Naha from the monorail.”

On this year’s Respect-for-Senior-Citizens Day, the Okinawa Urban Monorail will also organize a live Okinawan folk song concert in the concourse of Omoromachi Station in Naha in cooperation with the Hiyamikachi Machigwa Museum. ‘Ryumaru’ that is a group formed by guides of the Ryukyu Bus Kotsu Co. and bus drivers, is scheduled to perform for about an hour starting 2 p.m.
