Organizers promise that everyone has fun and good time at the Azama Sun Sun Beach Festival.

The 3^rd Azama SunSun Beach Festival is set for Saturday, ready for a typhoon-weary crowd coming to enjoy the  ‘Back to 50’s Okinawa!’ theme.

Nanjo City mascot ‘Nanjii’ has been reserved a special role in the Saturday’s festival.

Admission is free, including for the music performance by ‘Lucky Lips’, an oldies band usually playing at live houses in Okinawa taking patrons back to the 50’s era.  At a facility on the beach, a beloved local beverage company, Okinawa Bireley’s will hold an exhibition representing its long history from the 1950’s.  Classic car fans will not want to miss the display of classic cars coming together, which organizers say invites visitors to ‘go back to the good old days’.

1951, Asahi Bakushu (now Asahi Beer) acquired the rights to manufacture and distribute Bireley’s Orange and Wilkinson Ginger Ale from General Foods and Ellis Wilkinson Ltd., respectively; both drinks are still sold in Japan despite being discontinued in their original countries. The way of producing the soft drinks and the Okinawa firm’s precious bottles collection will be introduced.

An essential event of the festival is an Eisa performance.  Kids’ Eisa and junior chamber Eisa shows are going to entertain people.  As a unique event, people can participate in looking for the City mascot ‘Nanjii’.

Festivities at Azama SunSun Beach, 1141-3 Azama, Chinen, Nanjo City, are slated to begin at 2 p.m.  Kids Eisa kicks things off at 2 p.m., followed by Junior Chamber Eisa at 4 p.m., ‘Look for real Nanjii’ game at 4:30 p.m., Ai Banjo music at 5:40 p.m., and Tomoya Oshiro, an Okinawan blind singer, live at 6:10 p.m.  A quiz takes place at 6:30 p.m., followed by Lucky Lip’s live concert at 7:20 p.m.  Fireworks cap the evening at 8:20 p.m.  The Bireley’s Exhibition opens at 11 a.m. and the classic car display is open 1 p.m. ~ 5 p.m.
