Demonstrators plan to circle Prefectural Building on Oct. 9th

Diet members from Okinawa, and representatives of the four opposition parties in the Prefectural Assembly have decided to organize a demonstration on Oct. 9, and join hands circling the Prefectural Building in Izumizaki, Naha, from noon to 1 p.m.

The demonstration is aimed at expressing opposition to the relocation of MCAS Futenma to Henoko in Nago. They also plan to call Okinawa Governor Hirokazu Nakaima not to approve the application for changes in the landfill plan that the Okinawa Defense Bureau plans to submit to the governor.

Satoru Nakasone, a Prefectural Assembly member says, “Although it’s a weekday, we want to conduct a rally of the scale of about 2,000 people attending.” Nakasone also explained there is a need for the demonstration to be conducted before Oct. 17th, which is the deadline for the application for landfill changes.

The demonstration is the third following the rallies on Aug. 23rd and Sep. 20th.
