The Okinawa Prefectural Office is calling for creating a PR song for Okinawa mainly to attract tourists to the prefecture.

Eisho Higa, the vocalist with a popular band ‘Begin’ from Ishigaki, and a well-known musician on Okinawa, is aiming to produce the song, and have it out on play lists by the end of this year.

The idea is to collect material and ideas for creating the song from local people. That could be anything, and any ideas like a poem, words, catch phrase, melody… anything that relates to Okinawa is welcome.   A special counter for collecting ideas from people will be set up on the first floor of Okinawa Times Building in Izumizaki on Oct. 19^th, the day of Naha Tug-of-War, and at the Prefectural Budokan in Onoyama Park from Oct. 24^th to 26^th during the Okinawa Industrial Festival.

“I would like to make a song that is something we can sing and dance together with people from outside Okinawa. Music will open people’s mind and expand the wave of exchange.  Anything like just words would be fine.  The most important thing is that people want to get in and be part o this project. Let’s make an Okinawa song together,” Higa urges.
