Typhoon Vongfong damages agricultural, marine products

The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of the Okinawa Prefectural Government, has published an estimate of damages typhoon Vongfong inflicted on agricultural and marine products in Okinawa.

The total amount of the damage is estimated at about ¥865 million.  Most of the damage was inflicted on sugar cane farms on Okinawa’s main island and Daito Islands.  A prawn farm on Kume Island alone suffered ¥340 million in damages.  The losses to forestry and fishery sector are still investigated, so the final figure of the damages will rise.

In the agricultural sector, the damage to sugar cane was put at ¥291 million.  Vegetable crops worth an estimated ¥186 million were lost, and ¥91 million was pinned to destroyed flowers.
