Visitors can try their hand in vegetable gardening among other hands-on experiences.

The 12th Nou-Dai Festival, the Okinawa Prefecture Agricultural College festival, reaching out to people who like gardening and growing vegetables and fruits, or are interested in farming, to attend this weekend’s festival at the college campus in Nago..

A flower arrangement workshop runs almost non-stop throughout the entire festival.

The college has two kinds of special courses of horticulture and animal husbandry, and officials are using the Nou-Dai Festival as a means of promoting the agricultural industry.  They will sell fresh vegetables, tropical fruits like mango and star fruit, plants and flowers they grew, all  “for a  good deal”.  Organizers say beef will be particularly cheap compared to stores, encouraging visitors to “come if you want to get ‘Wagyu,’ the famed Japanese marbled beef variety.”  To participate, visitors must get an exchange ticket between 9:15 and 10:00 a.m., or 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, and on Sunday between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. or 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. People can also buy special blended compost at inexpensive prices.  College officials also note that, “When you are hungry, you can try some dishes like beef soup and curry at the school cafeteria.”

What would be an Okinawan Festival without Eisa, and in Nou-dai’s case t takes place in nature environment.
