Norovirus causes food poisoning in Naha hospital
Naha City Public Health Institute has identified the source of a food poisoning caused by norovirus among patients at Omoromachi Medical Center in Uenoya, Naha City.
According to city health officials the origin of the virus was traced to Elegant Foods Co. that is the company in charge of food preparation for the hospital. The company was ordered to halt its business until Jan. 10th, and take necessary steps to prevent the contamination occurring again.
According to Naha City Public Health Institute, about 30 of the hospital inpatients reported vomiting and diarrhea on Jan. 6th. Subsequent tests detected norovirus in the feces of one of the patients. People who reported symptoms are not seriously ill, and all are recovering.
