Available accommodation scarce through Chinese New Year
It was difficult for tourists coming to Okinawa to secure reservations at accommodation facilities on the island last week because of a schedule conflict between the Chinese New Year and ongoing professional baseball spring training camps and exhibition games.
The Chinese vacation season of the Lunar New Year started on Feb. 18th, and many visitors from China were expected to take advantage of the holiday.
Hardly any rooms at the hotels across the island were available from the 18th through 22nd, and people without an advance reservation had a hard time to find a place to stay. Responding to requests from tourist agencies, the Okinawa Prefectural Office had been collecting vacancy information from not only hotels but also guesthouses and inns. However, the conclusion was that the lodging situation was extremely tight.
