Island’s largest solar energy facility goes on line

Ichigo ECO Energy Co.,Ltd, one of the group companies of Ichigo Group Holdings, a Japanese real estate and clean energy company with headquarters in Tokyo, has completed the construction of the largest solar power facility on Okinawa. The dedication ceremony of the facility took place on Jan. 28th.

The facility, called ‘Ichigo Nago-Futami ECO Power Plant’ is located in Futami, Nago, and generates 8,440 kilowatts of power. The company estimates it can generate 8 million kWh per year that is equivalent to the annual power consumption of about 2,750 households.

The site is on the former land of the Nago City-owned Yukari stock farm.  The company leased the 14.6-hectare parcel of land from the city on a 20-year-long contract. The company started to sell the electricity to Okinawa Electric Power Company on Feb. 2nd, and expects about ¥300 million per year income.

Currently, Ichigo ECO energy Corporation operates 15 photovoltaic power plants across the nation. The facility in Nago is the largest power plant the company has developed so far.
