Prefectural Government decides on record budget for fiscal 2015

In its meeting on Feb. 9th, the Okinawa Prefectural Government decided to increase the prefecture budget for the fiscal year 2015 by 3.1 percent. As a result, it will increase by ¥22.6 billion to a total ¥746.5 billion yen marking the 7th consecutive year of increases, and also the fourth consecutive year of record-high increases.

The budget includes expenses for the recently decided opening of the new prefectural office in Washington D.C. and entailing travel expenses. The new office is tasked with lobbying to reduce U.S. military bases on Okinawa.

In addition, the budget for researching the Asia Economic Strategy Vision has been included.

The budget plan closely follows the election promises of Governor Onaga.

Although casino related expenses that the former administration had approved were cut this year, the government has prioritized allocations for the industrial development, tourism and social security areas.
