25-year-old arrested for murder of Motobu woman

Okinawa Prefectural Police arrested a 25-year-old man, Friday, on suspicion of murdering an elderly woman in Motobu in February. The man has reportedly confessed to the killing.

According to investigators, 25-year-old equipment installation worker Keiyu Ishioroshi was arrested on suspicion of breaking into and entering a private residence and murder. The son and wife of the victim, 72-year-old Miyoko Nakasone, discovered her body stabbed to death in her house in Motobu Town on Feb. 12.

Investigators say that the victim was killed sometime between 9 p.m. Feb. 10th and the morning of Feb. 11th. The suspect has told investigators that he had no relation to the victim nor did he know her before. However, they have not yet said anything about a possible motive for the killing citing reasons related to the investigation. The room and house of the victim reportedly did not show any signs of a struggle, nor was anything missing, according to the victim’s son.

Police only say that the suspect and the victim lived only about 750 meters apart. They also revealed that besides working installing building equipment, the suspect worked on nights at a snack bar owned by his mother. The bar is located about 150 meters from the victim’s house.

When police questioned people living in the neighborhood, the suspect’s name came up repeatedly. They found his fingerprints and some items belonging him at the scene of the crime.  They are currently checking possible DNA evidence that would link the suspect to the murder.
