Elderly woman found dead, apparent victim of murder

The husband of an elderly woman living in a one-story house in Taba, Uruma City, found her dead in her bed early in the morning, Feb. 25th. A subsequent police investigation determined that she was murdered.

According to Uruma Police, the husband discovered the body of his 73-year-old wife lying face up on her bed about 5 a.m., and called an ambulance. Okinawa Prefectural Police investigating the death noticed a red line on her neck. A post mortem examination concluded that she had been strangled, and police concluded that her death was a murder.

The Prefectural Police set up a special task force to investigate, and assigned 53 officers to the case at Uruma City Police Station.  According to Police officials, no murder weapon possibly used to kill the woman has been found in the house so far.

Nakayama lived in the house with her husband who’s also in his 70s. As she did not show up from her room in the early morning of Feb. 25th, the husband went to look for her, and then found her dead on the bed in her room.  She had her clothes on and no marks of a struggle were found. The room was not in disarray either.  The person she last met was her husband. The medical examination estimated that she had died between around 9 p.m. on the previous night and 4:45 a.m. on the 25th.
