Okinawa City Police arrested a 54-year-old unemployed man about 5 p.m. on Mar. 15th, on suspicion of threatening a 9-year-old elementary school girl with a kitchen knife on a street in Sonda, Okinawa City.

According to Okinawa City Police, the girl was not injured.  The police added that they detected alcohol in the man’s breath when he was arrested.  The man allegedly said to the girl ‘I’ll stab you’ and terrorized the child with brandishing a kitchen knife.

The man has admitted to the charges.  According to police, he told investigators he was on the way to see his friend to give back the knife that the friend had asked him to sharpen. He could not tell a motive for his behavior, and reportedly claimed that he could not remember the incident very clearly.
