The much-awaited Grand Opening of AEON Mall Okinawa Rycom took place at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

AEON officials estimated that about 11,000 people waited in line in front of the mall before the opening.  The mall is the 142nd AEON mall in the nation, and the largest shopping facility on Okinawa with the site area of 175,000 square meters and the total store area of 78,000 square meters.  There are 228 stores in the facility including 116 stores that are new to Okinawa.

On the opening day, roads around the mall were backed up with cars lining up to two kilometers.   According to AEON Mall officials, up to 210,000 people visited the mall during the three days of pre-opening leading to Saturday.

AEON aims at attracting 12,000,000 customers per year from both in and out of the country.
