Naha Marathon registration starts Monday

Runners rejoice after completing Naha Marathon.

Registration for the most popular marathon on Okinawa opens at 9 a.m. Monday, and is expected to exceed the allotted 30,000 runners in a matter of hours.

The 31st Naha Marathon organizers say the registration will run from Monday morning until midnight June 19th, but it’s likely there will have to be a drawing to select the final 30,000 for the December 6th race.  To apply for the race, runners must first register as a Sports Entry member by going online to http://www.sportsentry.ne.jp/entry/t/60729/e.  The application process is free, and once accomplished, can be regularly checked.

The final lottery drawing results will be announced on August 5th in the Sports Entry’s MY PAGE. For those chosen, payment procedures for participation fees and entry fees, which are 5% of the participation fee, must be completed before the due date.  Organizers say they will not be able to process the payment if the settlement period is expired, and the lottery selection will also be cancelled. Payment must be by credit card.  Inquiry information is in English or Japanese only, is available from the Sports Entry Customer Support Center, info@sportsentry.ne.jp.

The Naha Marathon registration fee is ¥6,500 for adults, ¥5,000 for those under 18 years of age, and also ¥5,000 for those over 65 years of age.  The fee includes insurance, a runner’s number, and a commemorative T-shirt. No refunds will be available after the application has been accepted.  Cancellation of the Naha Marathon due to inclement weather, accident or other incidents or causes will not be cause for refunding the Registration Fee.

The 42.195-kilometer race begins at 9 a.m. on Sunday, December 6th, at Onoyama Park in downtown Naha.  The finish line is also at Onoyama Park. Peace Memorial Park south of Itoman is at the 21.4 kilometer halfway point, and the Tomigusuku City government offices immediately south of Naha City is at the 34-kilometer point.
