8th typhoon of season formed over South China Sea

The Okinawa Meteorological Bureau announced that a tropical depression over the South China Sea officially became the 8th typhoon of the season in the morning of Jun. 21st.

The atmospheric pressure at the center of the typhoon as of Sunday morning was 998 hectopascals, and it had sustained winds of 18 m/s gusting up to 25 m/s.  The typhoon, which the Joint Typhoon Warning Center calls tropical storm “Kujira” is slowly moving north towards Hainan and China, and has no chance heading towards Okinawa.
