Dams emptier than average, weekend may bring relief

According to Okinawa Prefecture officials, because the rainy season was shorter than the average, water levels in the eleven Okinawan dams stood at 63.5 percent as of Jun. 15th. That is 15.3 percentage points less than on average at the same time of the year.

Although some rainfall is predicted for the weekend, the Okinawa Meteorological Agency is forecasting that the fine weather will continue al least for another week due to a large high-pressure system over the Pacific Ocean that also covers Okinawa.

However, if the rains predicted over the weekend as a consequence of frontal instability and a wet air stream come that would bring the rainfall to about the same level as an average year.
