27 injured in typhoon

27 people suffered injuries of various degrees, most of them minor, during typhoon Chan-hom on the main island of Okinawa, and Miyako and Ishigaki islands. Injuries included bruises and broken bones when people fell down in high winds.

According to the Okinawa Meteorological Bureau, Tamagusuku in Nanjo City and Kumejima Airport registered winds with a maximum velocity of 49.9 and 44.8 meters per second respectively.

The typhoon cut electricity to 42,200 households. The storm force winds blew between noon on Jul. 9th and 3 p.m. Jul. 10th on Okinawa’s main island. Most of schools were closed, and public transportation including flights were stopped or canceled.
