Businessman nabbed for DUI hit-and-run
Ishikawa Police arrested a 48-year-old businessman suspected of a hit-and-run accident that happened on a street in Ishikawa, Uruma City on Jul. 4th,
According to Ishikawa Police, Tsutomu Taba is suspected of running over 37-year-old base employee Naohiko Isa about 3:25 in the morning of the 4th with his mini car, and driving away from the scene of the accident. Isa was reportedly lying down on the street when the accident happened. He was taken conscious to a hospital, but he died three hours later of his injuries.
Ishikawa Police had been searching the suspect based on an account of an eyewitness, and found him at a parking lot in a residential area about 1.5 km away from the accident site. The breathalyzer test at the time showed about three times the legal limit of alcohol in Taba’s breath.
When questioned, Taba reportedly admitted to the charges and told investigators, “I ran over a man with a car while under the influence of alcohol, and then run away from the accident site because I didn’t want to be caught.”
