U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Lawrence Nicholson has been named new commanding general of III Marine Expeditionary Force based at Camp Courtney.

Nicholson, the current commanding general at the First Marine Division at Camp Pendleton in California, will also become the coordinator for the U.S. forces in Okinawa.

He will also be promoted to the rank of lieutenant general.
