Okinawan pair wins title in high school tennis c’ships
An Okinawan pair of tennis players taking part in the National High School Championships took the first place in the women’s doubles, Saturday.
Lisamari Ryu and Kiko Nishizato representing Okinawa Shogaku High School won the final match and took the title on Aug. 8th. Their win marked the first time for Okinawan students to win the prestigious nationwide high school competition in 20 years. Okinawan high school tennis players won the title last time in 1995.
In the final match Ryu and Nishizato defeated Masumi Onishi and Azusa Kenmochi representing Waseda-jitsugyo 6-2 and 6-2. Ryu took the second place in the singles competition, too.
