Large demonstration held at Camp Schwab Saturday

Demonstrators opposing the construction of the MCAS Futenma replacement facility in Henoko held a large rally in front of Camp Schwab, Saturday afternoon.

Members of the ruling parties in the Okinawa Prefectural Assembly and local civic groups organized the rally that, according to organizers, had about 3,800 demonstrators gathered in front of the base gate. The demonstrators called for stopping all work for the relocation. They also demanded scrapping Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s security related bills, currently scheduled for vote in the Upper House of the Parliament, and resignation of the Abe Administration.

This was the 5th rally in front of Camp Schwab since the boring survey was started last August. Plenty of local residents including parents with children and students participated in the rally.
