Onna-no Eki celebrates Silver Week with specials, entertainment
Starting this weekend there is a string of three Japanese national holidays that fall on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday giving most people five consecutive days off in what is called “Silver Week.”
That has not escaped the managers at Onna-no Eki, a busy and popular market located at the western coastline on Route 58 just after Okinawa Renaissance Resort when traveling north. Over each of the five holidays from Saturday through Wednesday, Onna-no Eki tenants offer specials while various performers provide live music and other entertainment.
Besides offering a variety of fresh local farm produce and souvenir goods, the facility has several small food stalls with seating outside. Especially popular among visitors are fresh seafood snacks.
Onna-no Eki, meaning “Onna Station,” has over the past few years become the most popular road station on Okinawa. During the Silver Week the facility features a special vegetables and fruits sale that goes on daily as long as daily stocks last. Baked sweet potatoes are also on sale, and this is also until daily stocks run out.
All-you-can-pack snack sale is also included in the schedule, and free bags of shiqwasa are given away to customers who spend over ¥2,000 for purchases at the shops in the Onna-no Eki. Shiqwasa giveaway is on the menu until stocks run out.
For those who want to try their own hand with something there is a Okinawan local toy making class each day.
A 5% discount is given to people over 60-year-old age on Sep. 21st that is the Respect for the Aged Day.
Onna-no Eki market is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day during the Silver Week. It is located at 1656-9, Aza Nakadomari, Onna Village, https://goo.gl/I2uIag
Admission and parking at the facility is free, although it can get crowded.
