Head-on collision injures five, but no one fatally
A 21-year-old airman stationed on Kadena Air Base turned on the wrong side of the road in Uechi, Okinawa City, in the evening of Oct. 14 and collided with a car driven by a 36-year-old Okinawan woman.
According to Okinawa City Police, the accident occurred on Route 85 in Uechi, Okinawa City when the airman turned onto the opposing lane against the traffic.
In the accident, the 61-year-old mother of the woman who was riding on the passenger seat suffered a broken leg. The woman’s two children, a 4-year-old and one-year-old, who were in the back of the car, suffered bruises. The driver bruised her chest as well.
The airman hit his head and was taken to the U.S. Navy Hospital.
Police say that no alcohol was involved in the accident. Police are investigating the cause.
