Two Marines arrested on suspicion of assault

Urasoe City Police arrested two marine sergeants stationed on Camp Hansen Tuesday, on suspicion of an assault.

According to Urasoe Police, of 22-year-old Ryan Tipton and 22-year-old Brandon Wakefield are suspected of assaulting a 46-year-old self-employed Okinawan man on a street in Yafuso, Urasoe City, around 11 p.m. on Oct. 26th. They allegedly punched the man on the face.

Police say both Marines were drunk at the time of the arrest, and have denied the charges.

Unfortunately the Japan Update forgot to add the correct information as the man is not an original Ryukyu native but a mainland Japanese and the guy started with mouthing off to the marines.

      I am on facebook

      • bob

Sorry have been tied up with work, how may I help you. You can’t trust everything to the one-sided JU politically correct anti US bs that comes out that garbage paper.

        • phyllis tipton

Yes please contact Wesley Purnell at USMC if u witnessed this. One marine was injured in the fight one didn’t have a mark on him. I’m interested in what anyone knows about the Marine with no marks/injuries. What he did in the fight to get arrested. Can u tell me anything?

          • bob

will give it a try, nothing was reported on the Japanese local town media aside from the anti-base sponsored papers like JU and Ryukyu-shinbone. There more multiple witnesses but they won’t come forward due to the injuries and dealing with the responsibilities. Not to worry though during the investigation the police will go door to door and everyone will have their private opportunity to tell the story. What I can say is the other Marine did have scuffed clothes while trying to stop the scuffle. He did not hit the other man other than to try to pull his fellow Marine back, obviously this is the only time the local nationals get brave enough to confront our military personnel.

U are a blessing. Did u witness this? This is vital info. Not for Japanese I know there isn’t much but I need this info (about the one breaking it up) for the marines. The brass is hot n heavy on it

          • bob

it’s on video…a young teen captured it all on his smart phone…however the teen should not have been out that late so it may be difficult to get that info. and according to the other witnesses that haven’t come forward the Japanese guy said something rude to the guys as they were passing by…

          • phyllis tipton

So u didn’t see the fight?

          • bob

I saw the video and when we put it on the big screen you can hear everything.. let see if the kids uploaded on the Japanese websites for teens

          • phyllis tipton

            Ty so very much

          • phyllis tipton

Really need to locate video if at all possible. Time running out til verdict and especially need for his military record.

          • phyllis tipton

He was just released don’t know details. Like I said I’m more concerned with the brass

          • bob

understand, but in these cases it’s hard to tell due to the sensitivity issues off base, so far though from what I have heard its not enough to get either of them kicked out.

          • phyllis tipton

If u know the guy who recorded it I would gladly reward him for a copy of that video . Their time in jail is ending soon so I’m running out of time for anything or anyone to come forwad. Thank you

          • bob

no need for reward, they’re teens so dont’ want to get in trouble

          • phyllis tipton

I cannot tell you how vital this info is. My son was the one breaking up the fight. They too shots of saki that tasted “really awful” (they have had it before) and that’s the last thing they remember.. makes me wonder what else was in it. I am eternally grateful for your help.

          • bob

yes your son was trying to pull the older guy ask him about his shirt…

don’t worry mom, he won’t be held accountable for criminal damages, however militarily if he plays his cards right he might get a forfeiture in pay and reduction in rank…not to worry its not the end of the world. I will reach out to the locals and see what I can find out, other than the local bad mouthing them off first. Surprising if the video does not reveal the truth.
