Kitanakagusuku folks put together Shiosai Festival
Even as the year-end holiday season approaches, the season for local festivals continues, with the 30th Kitanakasgusuku Shiosai Festival taking place this weekend at Shiosai Park.
The two-day festival runs 14:00 ~ 21:00 on both days with fireworks capping the events both nights. The festival is held each year as an event to tie the community together. It’s a small event with most of the program performed by local people.
On the first day of the festival, village people’s performances include dance and music by local elementary and preschool students, and performances by a local Karate group, resident’s association and women’s society.
The second day is a music festival where local popular musicians will entertain people. There are a street dance performance and several live bands. An Okinawa Sumo tournament is an annual feature, as is the local specialty goods exhibition and sale. And, of course, long lines of food stalls and game booths will line up the event site.
Shiosai Festival venue is at Shiosai Park; 2070-16, Atta, Kitanakagusuku Village (https://goo.gl/9fJfC4). The festival runs from 14:00 to 21:00 on Saturday and Sunday. Admission to the festival venue is free. Parking is limited in the area, but a shuttle bus will run every 30-40 minutes between temporary parking lots at the City Hall and Chuo Community Center, and the event site starting 13:00.
