Nippon Ham spring camp to stay in Nago

Hiroji Osoko, the acting owner of the Japanese pro-baseball team Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters, and Toshimasa Shimada, a representative of the team, visited the Nago City Mayor Susumu Inamine Nov. 9th, for a meeting at Nago City Government Office.

The two representatives of the baseball team confirmed that the team would continue their spring camp in Nago beyond 2020. Nippon-Ham started their spring camp in Nago City in 1979 as one of the first teams to lay the foundation of the current Okinawa pro-baseball team spring camp boom.

However, the team announced in April this year that they were planning to move the first half of their spring training camp to Arizona from next year because the existing old baseball field in Nago did not meet the team’s standards. As a result, the city hastily announced that it would construct a new baseball field by 2020.

During the construction of the new baseball field in 2018 and 2019, the team has decided that they would move the camp to Kunigami Village, where the Nippon Ham farm team has its spring training camp.
