Okinawa City Government announced Monday that an on-going internal investigation has revealed that the city has by mistake collected a total of ¥1.82 million in excessive sewage charges by from seven households over a period of more than 18 years. The city has reimbursed the money to the households.

The city has also uncovered more than 300 cases where the sewage charges were not collected at all. The investigation covering the entire city continues.

The mistakes were identified in the course of the city’s data system upgrading.
