Okinawa to be one venue of J.League pre-season matches

Mitsuru Mirai, the chairman of the Japan Professional Football League, better known as the J.League, visited Okinawa Prefecture Governor Takeshi Onaga in the prefectural government office on Nov. 25th, to officially inform the governor that his organization has decided Okinawa to be named one of the venues of the J.League pre-season matches.

The pre-season events are training matches before the start of the season. They were started for the first time this year for the purpose of giving the fans an opportunity to assess the teams’ readiness for the regular season games.

The matches are scheduled to take place from late January through early February in Okinawa in addition to Kagoshima and Miyazaki prefectures. The details of the events will be decided next month. Some 12 teams from J1 to J3 are expected participate in the events. Okinawa’s own team, F.C.Ryukyu plays in the J3 league.
