Naha City Police arrested a 35-year-old construction worker, Naoya Shinzato from Makabi, Naha City, on Dec. 10th, on suspicion of hit-and-run.

The man is suspected of hitting a 15-year-old high school boy from Itoman City on Dec. 9th while driving a cargo truck in Matsugawa, Naha City, and running away from the accident site without giving aid. The boy suffered minor injuries on both arms in the accident.

According to police, they found Shinzato at his home. When questioned, he told investigators that, “I may have hit something but I don’t know if it was a person.” He has denied the charges.

A breathalyzer test taken about an hour and half after the accident showed more than three times the legal limit of alcohol in his breath. The police found his home address by an eyewitness testimony.
