Naha Rec Center to become hotel, duty free shop
Japan Post Holdings owned recreation facility Kanpo-no-Yado Naha Recreation Center in Minatomachi, Naha City, will become a duty-free shop and hotel next year. The facility closed at the end of August.
The center that includes a pool, training gym, meeting rooms and an accommodation facility opened in 1980 but was closed this year due to the decrease of visitors.
Okinawa Meiwa, a local land development company based in Onna Village, obtained the land and the buildings for about ¥1.1 billion in October.
Recently, Alexander & Sun Co., which runs duty-free shops across the country, bought the property rights for the facility. Alexander & Sun is planning to renovate, and open a hotel and duty-free shop in the facility within the next fiscal year.
The renovation work is scheduled to start early next year.
