Sakima floats idea of luring Disney to Ginowan
Ginowan City Mayor Atsushi Sakima met with Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga Dec. 8th at the office of the Prime Minister, and called for the government support and preferential tax treatment for attracting resort hotels to the city.
Specifically, Sakima had in mind Oriental Land Co., Ltd. that manages Tokyo Disneyland. He wanted Suga’s help to lure the Disneyland operator to build a facility on MCAS Futenma once it will be returned.
Suga reportedly took a positive stance on Sakima’s ideas, and said that he would do his best to lend his support to the plan.
After the meeting, Sakima confirmed to media that he had met with Toshio Kagami, the CEO of Oriental Land, and presented his idea to him.
According to press reports, Suga had asked Sakima to set up a channel for the Ginowan City Government to directly talk with the Japanese Government about matters related to the MCAS Futenma bypassing the prefectural government.
