A car and a motorcycle collided at Kitamae intersection on Highway 58 Sunday morning. The car left the scene without stopping, but police found the car and driver about an hour later close to Isa Post Office in Ginowan.

According to Ginowan Police and eyewitnesses, the car that was traveling south on Highway 58 made a right turn against red traffic light. A 38-year-old school teacher from Nishihara was riding southward on his high-powered motorcycle when the car turned right in front of him, and he crashed into the car and fell down. However, although he fell down, the man escaped serious injury suffering only minor bruises on his jaw, left wrist and right knee.

Despite of the crash, the car did no stop but left the scene.

A police patrol that arrived to investigate the hit-and-run case found a Y number plate at the site. Several police patrols came to look for the car, and they found it and the driver about an hour later near Isa Post Office.

However, when police asked the female driver to submit to a breathalyzer test, she refused, and was subsequently arrested.

Police identified the driver as a 23-year-old female U.S. Navy Seaman 1st Class stationed at the U.S. Naval Hospital on Camp Foster. She reportedly refused the breathalyzer test until the arrival of the Military Police.

After the MPs arrived, the breathalyzer test showed about five times the legal limit of alcohol in her breath. The number plate of the car was missing and the police identified the plate at the accident scene as the sailor’s.
