Norovirus detected in Chatan school lunch worker

Health officials discovered a member of the staff at Chatan Town School Lunch Center had been infected with norovirus. The center prepares the school lunches for four pre-schools, four elementary schools and two junior high schools in Chatan Town. As a precaution, town officials decided to temporarily suspend the school lunch service in the schools from Jan. 12th through 18th.

According to town government officials, the staff member had a positive reaction for a norovirus test at the regular monthly examination. The staff member has not developed any symptoms but was told to stay at home. There have been no reports of illness from students or teachers either.

Because of the suspension, students at the affected schools were asked to bring their own lunches until the 18th.
