Okinawa celebrated 16,666 new adults on Monday

January 11th was a Japanese national holiday, the ‘Coming-of Age Day’ that marks the day all young people who had their 20th birthday the previous year officially celebrated their status of becoming adults.

22 cities and towns on the island held official ceremonies for the new adults, and young men and women clad in suits and long-sleeved kimonos were seen across the island.

According to prefectural government officials, 16,666 new adults celebrated their big day on Monday, 8,547 men and 8,119 women, which is 605 people less that a year ago.
