Police gun goes off while he cleans it
Okinawa Prefectural Police said that a 24-year-old male riot police officer’s gun went off by accident at the Prefectural Riot Police Unit Office in Ota, Uruma City, Friday evening.
As the gun went off, the bullet hit the floor but none of the seven people present in the room was hurt.
According to police officials, the accident happened when the officer was cleaning his gun in a waiting room in the office building. The officer has told investigators, “I did not realize the gun was still loaded.”
According to regulations, police officers are required to unload all rounds from their gun when they clean it. However, investigators believe that the officer failed to empty the rounds from his gun by mistake.
